From the recording Blazers Mill
On April 4, 1878, Buckshot Roberts rode to Blazers Mill. Billy the Kid and 13 Regulators just happened to be at the Mill and they had a warrant for Buckshot's arrest.
Buckshot fought and held off all 13 of them, killing Dick Brewer and injuring others. Buckshot Roberts did get hit in the belly and also died the next day.
Dick Brewer and Buckshot Roberts were buried side by side from the Batlle at Blazers Mill
Lyrics
Verse 1
not knowing what the day would bring,
not knowing that he could die.
He came to settle what was he owed,
a simple debt no more
thirteen guns were waiting there
Vengeance in their eyes
Pre-Chorus
The mill wheel turns
As the debt
it’s still unpaid
Two men dead
side by side
At the Battle of Blazers
Chorus
Lay down your guns and pray
with a belly full of fire
I’m gonna make you pay
On a Dying man’s borrowed time
Regulators bested by
Roberts as he stands tall
Verse 2
As morning came along with Death
Roberts breathed his last breath
Hunter and foe buried side by side
Under the April sky
No one came to mourn that day
He was just a name
